About Parkview Elementary School

View of Parkview Elementary SchoolParkview Elementary teachers and staff believe students learn in multiple ways and accept the Salt Lake City School District Vision Statement that each student is valued and nurtured to achieve his or her highest potential academically, physically, and socially, resulting in a principled contributor to society. We continue to learn, understand, and practice the Elements of Reform, including: Best Teaching Practices, Community of Caring, Community Collaboration, Advocacy for All, Accountability and Family Involvement. We implement and articulate the Salt Lake City School District Performance Results, which are: Complex Thinker and Problem Solver, Contributor to the Community, Quality Worker and Producer, and Self-Directed Learner.

Parkview's School Improvement Plan focuses on four major goal areas:

Parkview's literacy plan is Balanced Literacy and is taught throughout the day in the content areas. Teachers have had extensive training in the implementation of California Early Literacy Learning (pre-kindergarten through 3rd grade) and Extended Literacy Learning (3rd through 5th grade).

Parkview's math plan is comprehensive. We have a 90 minute math block. Teachers have a specific plan to follow which begins each day with review and moves into new learning.

Parkview has many programs and service volunteers that support our efforts. These include: America Reads, Reading Recovery, Community of Caring, daily student recognition, Colors of Success, school-wide citizenship plan, Student of the Month, Smart Behavior Choice recognition, computer lab, community service volunteers, block collaboration schedule, business partnerships with, but not limited to, Questar, IHC, the Chamber of Commerce, and the Bennion Center at the University of Utah.

Site Description: Parkview is located in the Glendale neighborhood on the west side of Salt Lake City. The community served by the school has diverse ethnic, social, and economic groups.
